PET/CT in Melanoma (Clinicians’ Guides to Radionuclide Hybrid Imaging) de Michael S. Hofman,Rodney J. Hicks

Descripción - Reseña del editor This pocket book provides up-to-date guidance on the use of PET/CT in patients with melanoma, which is of rapidly growing importance due to the emergence of immunotherapy. The role of PET/CT in diagnostic workup, staging, treatment selection, prognostication, and follow-up is clearly explained. Imaging features are described and illustrated with the aid of a series of teaching cases, and attention is drawn to normal variants, artifacts, and pitfalls. Readers will also find explanation of the relation of the clinical and pathological background to imaging and the value of PET/CT compared with conventional radiological imaging. The book is published within the Springer series Clinicians’ Guides to Radionuclide Hybrid Imaging (compiled under the auspices of the British Nuclear Medicine Society) and will be an excellent asset for referring clinicians, nuclear medicine/radiology physicians, radiographers/technologists, and nurses who routinely work in nuclear medicine and participate in multidisciplinary meetings. PET/CT in Melanoma / Springer for Research & Development ~ The book is published within the Springer series Clinicians’ Guides to Radionuclide Hybrid Imaging (compiled under the auspices of the British Nuclear Medicine Society) and will be an excellent asset for referring clinicians, nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, radiographers, technologists, and nurses who routinely work in nuclear medicine and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.

PET/CT in Melanoma / Michael Hofman / Springer ~ This pocket book provides up-to-date guidance on the use of PET/CT in patients with melanoma, which is of rapidly growing importance due to the emergence of immunotherapy. The role of PET/CT in diagnostic workup, staging, treatment selection, prognostication, and follow-up is clearly explained.

PET/CT in Melanoma (Additional Teaching Cases) / SpringerLink ~ We also highlight how early identification of metastatic melanoma with imaging may not change survival but cause morbidity from consequences of additional interventions. In the setting of oligometastatic disease, a short period of observation with repeat imaging to ascertain rate of temporal change and metastatic progression can be a useful approach to reduce futile interventions.

Role of PET/CT in Melanoma / SpringerLink ~ Part of the Clinicians’ Guides to Radionuclide Hybrid Imaging book series (CGRHI) Abstract In line with major advances in therapy for metastatic melanoma in the last decade, there have also been significant improvements in imaging.

PET and PET/CT of Malignant Melanoma / Radiology Key ~ PET and PET/CT of Malignant Melanoma Hans C. Steinert Malignant melanoma is the most aggressive cancer of the skin. The incidence of cutaneous malignant melanoma among whites living in the United States, Australia, and in Western Europe is increasing, but this increase is partly due to improved screening programs, although it seems undeniable the tumor…

Whole body PET/CT for initial staging of choroidal melanoma ~ MATERIALS AND METHODS. Since August 2003, 52 untreated patients with choroidal melanoma were referred for whole body PET/CT to screen for metastatic disease (table 1 1).Standard radiology related informed consents were obtained from all patients before PET/CT imaging as PET/CT has been approved for the staging of malignant melanoma.

18F-FDG PET-CT IMAGING IN MELANOMA - UP ~ FDG PET/CT imaging for N- and M- staging of malignant melanoma: experience with 250 consecutive patients • N=250, retrospective, stage I-IV and different time points in course of disease • Treatment change to PET/CT findings 48.4% Reinhardt, March 2006, JCO, volume 24, number 7 Overall accuracy Accuracy N staging Accuracy M staging

18F-FDG PET/CT and Melanoma: Staging, Immune Modulation ~ The usefulness of FDG PET/CT for imaging bone, soft-tissue, and visceral melanoma metastases has been well established, and in most instances, 18 F-FDG PET/CT outperforms conventional morphologic imaging modalities, such as CT alone or MRI, in depicting metastatic foci [14–16].

Staging of cutaneous melanoma - PubMed Central (PMC) ~ In patients with advanced melanoma, PET/CT is more sensitive than anatomic imaging modalities, such as CT or MRI, and at least equally specific [17–22]. Sensitivity is highest (≥90%) for metastases that are >1 cm in diameter, but tumour deposits as small as 0.6 cm can be reliably seen in areas of low background activity.

Melanoma - SNMMI ~ Coronal PET/CT (A) and axial PET/CT (B), CT (C), and PET (D) images acquired in patient with melanoma. Small focus of moderately increased 18F-FDG uptake corresponded to small soft-tissue nodule on CT (yellow arrows). Biopsy confirmed melanoma, and subsequent surgery for solitary metastasis was performed.

A Guide to Clinical PET in Oncology: Improving Clinical ~ In 2001, positron emission tomography/X ray computed tomography (PET/CT) hybrid imaging system became commercially available. An era of clinical PET then emerged, in which PET images were utilized for clinical practice in the treatment and diagnosis of cancer patients. PET imaging could recognize areas of abnormal metabolic behaviour of cancers in
